Introduction
Mark Searle, a St Clare's teacher and a SCOOL newsletter Guest Editor, coaches rugby and still plays cricket and golf. As for football, he supports Tottenham - Spurs.
Mark says:
Here are some really good websites on sport. The sites are all in English, so you'll be practising your language as well as doing something interesting.
Football
If you are into football there are thousands of official and unofficial sites to dip into. Some of them are excellent and others are rubbish; but here are some of the best.
One of the best ways to get into sites about the English Premier League is to visit:
http://www.footballgrounds.freeserve.co.uk
This is a great site packed with photographs of every football stadium in England, some interesting statistics and links to the official club websites.
In fact it is an interesting starting place for anyone interested in English football.
The official club websites are usually pretty good, with those of the premiership clubs often excellent. Particularly worth visiting are the sites of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. Apart from lots of player/team information there are pages for: results and fixtures, games, the club shop and fan talk. The websites for these teams are:
You can also find information on how to get tickets for matches on these sites. So, they are well worth a look!

Formula 1
As many of you are into Formula 1 I thought I would offer you some interesting sites to increase you enjoyment of the current season. There are an incredible number of sites for 'petrol heads' and it would take forever to surf through them all - but some of my favourites are:
http://www.f1nutter.com
http://www.itv-f1.com
These are fantastic sites with all the info you could possibly want and with extensive links to constructor sites and other F1 fanatic sites. Explore these at your leisure and if you find any other really good sites please email and let me know - I'll be very grateful!
Golf
I am getting obsessed with golf! I used to play a lot when I was younger, but a full-time job and a family does serious damage to your handicap - I now play off 18, which is six shots worse than 5 years ago! But at least I am playing regularly again and so there is hope for the future. We are really lucky in this area as we have some fantastic golf courses and the temptation to play every weekend is almost irresistible!
Here are some of Mark's favourite golf sites:
http://www.ecs.net/golf/England
This is a good site with links to all the best courses/clubs in England, information on golfing holidays and even software downloads - it really is worth looking at!
http://golfcourses.org
Great links (!) including a pro-shop and golf course finder - excellent for browsing or planning a golf holiday in England.
Rugby
This may be more of interest to those in France, Italy, Argentina and Japan. Surely rugby must be the best spectator sport of them all - it's fast, physical and aggressive and to me and many Englishmen it is also very important!
The best website is:
http://www.rfu.com
This is the official site for English rugby and is everything you would expect it to be. Lots of news and great links to a range of other sites - highly recommended. Indeed, from this site you can go almost anywhere on the net to find out more about rugby.
Olympic Games
The official International Olympic Committee's sit is pretty good. It has lots of links and a very interesting section called 'Olympic Museum' with the history of the games. An amazing part of this site is the 'Olympic Television Archive Bureau' in which you can watch video action of past Olympic Games - incredible! (you may have to download some software to view this section) The address of this site is:
http://www.olympic.org
Yahoo
http://uk.yahoo.com/
This is a great directory to find out about sport as it is pretty well organised into different sections. Just go to Yahoo UK and then look under the section called Recreation and Sport. Click on Sport. Click on UK Listings Only. Scroll down to the sport of your choice. You'll find most of what you are looking for here.
