Crossword Challenge is programme that generates crossword puzzle games, where you have to guess words or phrases from definitions. (Alternatively, wordsearch puzzles can be created, though clearly these are less useful.) Crossword Challenge is fun and easy to use, and very useful for testing and building vocabulary. The puzzles are generated dynamically, so they are different every time.

The words are taken from a word store of thousands of different expressions. There are five classes of vocabulary:

• nouns
• verbs
• adjectives
• phrasal verbs & dependent prepositions
• idioms & collocations

You can choose from six levels of language ability:

• elementary
• low intermediate
• intermediate
• upper intermediate
• advanced
